While this is a setback, FIFA still has the power to hold Morocco accountable for the brutal killing of helpless dogs, and Species Unite is committed to keeping the pressure on until they take action to end the violence.

FIFA has the authority to sanction host nations that violate ethical principles, with penalties ranging from fines to revoking a country’s hosting rights. We will continue to urge FIFA to use these tools to stop the mass killings.

We have updated our letter campaign to FIFA’s Secretary General, Mattias Grafstrom, and the FIFA Ethics Committee to reflect Morocco's confirmation as a host nation and are now calling on FIFA to either sanction Morocco or withdraw its co-hosting status if these brutal killings persist.
