One of the world’s leading dairy brands is launching vegan versions of some of its most popular products in an effort to create a more sustainable food business model.

Bel Group, the parent company who own the likes of The Laughing Cow, Kiri, and Leerdammer, will first bring out a dairy-free version of its popular Boursin cheese spread. The plant-based spread will be available in the U.S. by the end of this month, exclusively for sale on Amazon Fresh.

And Bel have also announced their huge plans for a plant-based version of its iconic Mini Babybel, set to launch next year.

The launch of these products represent how animal-based food companies are increasingly diversifying into plant-based alternatives in order to meet the rising consumer demand for more compassionate and sustainable food choices.

Plant-based dairy is also a huge win for the environment, too, with dairy-free innovation part of Bel’s latest corporate strategy of “For All. For Good”.

The strategy has already seen Bel acquire a majority stake in French plant-based start-up All in Foods.

“Five generations into its history, our company has reached a milestone. We are today confronted with the challenge of feeding a growing world population, while preserving our planet’s resources”, explained Antoine Fievet, Chairman and Chief Executive Office of the Bel Group. “The food business model that we all know is obsolete. It’s time to open the road to healthier and responsible food for all, and we food manufacturers must provide real answers.”

With Bel selling dairy products in over 130 countries, its commitment to diversifying into plant-based food represents huge potential for a more sustainable and animal-friendly food system.
