Hugo Boss Launches Its First Wool-Free Suit
The luxury fashion brand continues to release innovative animal-free designs as the fashion world moves towards more ethical materials.
Campaigners have welcomed a “milestone” in fashion as luxury fashion brand Hugo Boss launches its first vegan suit.
Many premium suits are made from animal-derived materials like wool, horsehair, and silk. Now, the new animal-free suit from Hugo Boss is instead crafted from certified organic European linen.
Certified with the PETA-Approved Vegan logo, the suit is available both online and in stores in beige, dark blue, and black.
“BOSS is the first world-known premium brand to set this stylish milestone in menswear,” says PETA spokesperson Harald Ullmann. “Kind people can now buy high-end business suits that are not only stylish and fashionable but also cruelty-free and sustainable.”
The suit comes as PETA and its international affiliates have uncovered unspeakable cruelty to sheep in the wool industry in 116 sheep and shearing operations on four continents in the last few years. They have documented rampant abuse, including bloody wounds and rough treatment such as kicking, hitting, and slamming sheep to the floor, and have filed complaints with the relevant authorities.
The wool-free suit is just the latest cruelty-free innovation from Hugo Boss. The brand also recently released a line of sneakers crafted from Piñatex - an industry-changing leather-alternative created from pineapple leaf fibres. Piñatex is one of the many alternative materials that cutting-edge designers are using instead of animals’ skins and furs.
