The devastating impact of the coronavirus pandemic is being felt across the globe. Animal shelters and charities are particularly vulnerable, as supply chains are disrupted, fundraising events are canceled, and shelter employees are unable to care for the animals.

Support Animal Sanctuaries

As the virus spreads, supply chains are likely to be disrupted, leaving animal sanctuaries without adequate supplies to care for and feed their residents. To make sure they have enough of the necessities over the coming months, sanctuaries are trying to plan and act accordingly. This means, bulk buying, which of course, eats into their limited funds.

Non-profit organizations rely on donations and will likely see a drop in those as all in-person fundraising efforts are canceled. If you can spare some money during this time, please consider donating to a local animal sanctuary.

Foster an Animal

At a time of worry and uncertainty, people are less likely to adopt animals, leaving shelters overcrowded and in desperate need of temporary homes for their residents, and if employees and volunteers get sick or need to self-quarantine, there won’t be enough people to care for or feed the animals.

To try and ease the burden, shelters are trying to find temporary homes for as many animals as possible. So, one of the most powerful things you can do for animals right now is to foster for your local shelter. Animal companions can also offer comfort during this time as we’re forced to self-isolate and practice social distancing.

Support Local Businesses

Small, local businesses, including vegan restaurants, shops, and cafes, are being devastated by the coronavirus. While governments will need to step in to help, individuals can also do their bit to support small businesses trying to survive the crisis. Some ways include:

  • Purchasing gift cards for the future

  • Shopping online

  • Taking advantage of discounts

  • Tip a little more than usual
