Wolves in Grave Danger due to New Congressional Bill

Republican leaders in the House of Representatives are doing everything in their power to strip protections from wolves across the United States. They have now included language from Lauren Boebert's absurdly named "Trust the Science Act"—which would remove Endangered Species Act protections from wolves in the lower 48 states—as a rider on a must-pass Department of the Interior appropriations bill.

Including riders in legislation allows politicians to sneak controversial or unpopular provisions into larger, often essential, spending packages. Lawmakers are counting on their colleagues feeling pressured to pass these bills without spending too much time debating the riders.

There is no legitimate scientific reason for delisting wolves across the United States. Gray wolves were nearly hunted to extinction before being granted ESA protections, and if they are no longer protected, they will likely be wiped out once again.

The push to delist wolves is nothing but pandering to cattle ranching lobbyists. We cannot let a few bad apples in Congress get away with the sneaky tactic of hiding this destructive bill in a larger must-pass package. The House of Representatives could vote on the appropriations bill as soon as Tuesday.

You can make a difference by sending a message to your representatives, urging them to oppose anti-wolf riders. Use the form below, created by the Endangered Species Coalition, one of our allies in the fight to protect wolves.
