Walmart has announced the launch of several plant-based products as part of the brand’s new accessible budget range.

Under the Bettergoods brand, the retailer will release several low price plant-based items ranging from milks and cheeses, to meals like boxed mac and cheese.

The Bettergoods range consists of 300 items, and while not all of them are plant-based, those that are can be identified by their distinct green packaging.

Accessibility is a key point of the new brand, with most of the products priced for under $5.

Among the highlights are oat milk frozen desserts, which Walmart say “customers won’t believe are plant-based”. The sweet treats are priced at only $3.44 a pint, and include flavors like salted caramel, mint chocolate chip, and blueberry swirl.

There’s also a plant-based cheese alternative, which the retailer described as having an “incredibly cheesy pull when melted”, and is priced at under $4.

Plant-based milks are also in the budget range, including the likes of chocolate flavored almond milk.

For a quick meal, customers can pick up a boxed mac and cheese, which is available in two different flavors.

“Today’s customers expect more from the private brands they purchase – they want affordable, quality products to elevate their overall food experience. The launch of Bettergoods delivers on that customer need in a meaningful way,” said Scott Morris, senior vice president, private brands, food and consumables, Walmart. “Bettergoods is more than just a new private brand. It’s a commitment to our customers that they can enjoy unique culinary flavors at the incredible value Walmart delivers.”

Several of the products are available to purchase at Walmart stores now, and the rest of the line will continue to roll out over the coming months.
