TIME Declares Impossible Pork One of The Best Inventions of 2020
The plant-based pork that looks and tastes like the real thing is named as one of the key innovations set to change the way we live.
TIME magazine has called Impossible Pork one of the best inventions of 2020 in their annual review of key innovations that are changing the world for the better.
Pork, the world’s most consumed animal protein, is responsible for a host of problems including devastating environmental pollution and the slaughter of millions of sentient pigs each year.
That’s where the Impossible brand steps in - to create plant-based pork that looks and tastes like the real thing, but with a fraction of the environmental footprint and without causing any animals to suffer.
The brand's latest innovation Impossible Pork, previewed at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2020, has already claimed a spot on TIME’s The Best 100 Inventions of 2020, despite not being commercially available just yet.
Made from soy and with a realistic texture and taste, the product is set to transform the food industry and help solve the problems of the current food system that heavily relies on resource-intensive animal protein.
The product’s eventual launch is partially responsible for the huge projected growth in the plant-based meat sector. It’s estimated that the current sales of plant-based pork, valued at $1.2 billion in 2020, will soar to $10.6 billion by 2030, according to a recent report by Future Market Insights (FMI).
“Steps taken by animal-welfare groups and communities to spread awareness on animal welfare has been a chief driver of the market,” a leading FMI analyst told VegNews. “This, coupled with inclination for maintaining a greener lifestyle, has been encouraging consumers to replace traditional meat items with plant-based alternatives.”
