Luxury sustainable fashion pioneer Stella McCartney is entering the beauty world with the launch of her line of sustainable, cruelty-free skincare, STELLA.

Developed in partnership with LVMH's Beauty Division, the three-product range is vegan, cruelty-free, and based on Stella’s personal philosophy of using ‘only what you need’.

Inspired by nature, the line consists of three refillable products to cover the essentials: the Reset Cleanser, the Alter-Care Serum and the Restore Cream. Formulated to work in harmony with the skin, they use consciously selected ingredients with clinically-proven results that support the skin’s key functions of regeneration and protection.

“We set out with an idea, and because we didn't want to compromise - on results, the origin of our ingredients, and, of course, ensuring we minimized our impact on Mother Earth - we kept on trying," said McCartney. "I believe the consumer needs to know there's another way, that they have a choice."

The line-up is a culmination of three years’ worth of innovation and exploration with each stage of the product life cycle challenged to minimise its impact – from the ingredients to the packaging, to operations all the way through to consumer usage.

The resulting products contain a minimum of 99 percent natural origin ingredients, with "the remaining less-than-1% synthetic ingredients being there to preserve the products integrity over time," according to the brand. Furthermore,  the products will be shipped rather than flown to the United States, slashing their carbon footprint by more than a third.

“We worked hard for almost three years with LVMH constantly evolving and aiming for what I felt was possible: rooted in nature, truly effective and responsible skincare. It’s a game changer and I want to share it with everyone,” said McCartney.

“I am delighted that Stella McCartney, after pioneering a sustainable and responsible luxury fashion, is now partnering with LVMH, committed to change the codes of cosmetics, the packaging and the ingredients”, said Antoine Arnault, Image & Environment, LVMH.

Drawing from her upbringing in Scotland, the core ingredients of this new range are: Biotechnological Lingonberry Extract to help restore an even complexion and support elasticity; Organic Rock Samphire, which is rich in unsaturated and saturated fatty acids and phytosterols to smooth fine lines and wrinkles; Wild Organic Birch Sap for its hydrating and firming properties; and Wild Harvested Dulse Algae Extract to help reduce the appearance of dark circles and restore an even skin tone.

The line also has a unique scent, ‘High Cliff’, created in collaboration with renowned perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, and inspired by the product’s ingredients and scent from her love of the Scottish landscape and early memories of her childhood.

“I was raised to see things from a different perspective to question and challenge conventions, to seek out another way. Growing up in Scotland, I learnt to smell nature, hear her, learn from her and most importantly respect her. I believe she has it all and if we see that, we can feed our body and our soul inside and out.

“It is now my wish to create a family and community outside of my own that feels the same need for a mindful alternative in beauty. Desirable products that truly work and reflect my values and commitment to living in harmony with nature.”

McCartney has also chosen to support the conservation NGO Wetlands International, committing to donate 1 percent of sales from the STELLA skincare.

“As we will borrow from nature, we want to give back. Nearly 80% of the Peatlands that cover Scotland’s land area are in a degraded state. We have partnered with Wetlands International to fund restoration programs dedicating a percentage of our net sales to the restoration of Stella protected zones,” said McCartney.

The new line cost between $45 to $140 and the complete collection will be available early September via www.stellamccartneybeauty.com.
