Beauty Giant Sephora Bans Eyelashes Made from Mink Fur
The historic move comes after PETA campaign receives over 280,000 signatures to ban the cruel product.
One of the world’s leading beauty retailers, Sephora, has announced that it will no longer stock mink-fur eyelashes, and will now only sell synthetic or faux-fur eyelashes in its 2,000-plus stores.
The decision comes after a huge campaign against Sephora by animals rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
Over 280,000 people supported the campaign against Sephora, and now the retailer will join the likes of Tarte, Too Faced, and Urban Decay, in refusing to stock eyelashes made from mink fur.
“There’s no difference between a mink coat and mink eyelashes when it comes to animal suffering,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman.
The campaign highlights the horrific suffering of captive mink on fur farms, with undercover video showing stressed mink frantically pacing inside cramped wire cages, mink suffering from infections and broken legs, and some even self-mutilating to cope with the intensive confinement. PETA added that farmed mink are then gassed, electrocuted, or have their necks broken.
This positive news is the latest successful animal campaign on behalf of mink - just last week, the Netherlands voted to close down all of its mink fur farms by the end of this year.
