NFL Star Cam Newton Sees ‘Remarkable’ Improvement in Fitness Thanks To Vegan Diet
The 245-pound New England Patriots quarterback is celebrating the benefits of a plant-based diet, one year after ditching meat.
The NFL’s Cam Newton is on a mission to show that a 6-foot-5, 245-pound athlete can thrive on a vegan diet.
As part of a new video campaign, ‘Built Like a Vegan’, the New England Patriots star eats homemade burgers with his children, and explains how the diet has transformed his life.
"I've seen such a remarkable change in the way my body responds to the food that I eat", Newton said, as part of the latest campaign by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
Shown wearing a ‘Vegan Strong’ shirt, Newton offers advice on how to move towards a plant-based diet.
"I don't want people to think you can't love food being vegan, or there's not good-tasting food that's vegan", he says. "A person may ask, 'How do you get your protein?' ... You get it in the same way that they get it, know what I'm saying? The more cleaner, more fresher way".
Newton first switched to a vegan diet last year, saying that the nutritional benefits of plant-based food accelerated his recovery from injury, and made him feel ‘like a rookie again’.
Newton is the latest sports star to show their support for the health benefits of adopting a plant-based diet, joining the likes of tennis ace Novak Djokovic, F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, and WWE wrestler Daniel Bryan.
