Joaquin Phoenix Encourages People to Try Vegan Lifestyle in New Campaign
The Oscar-winning actor speaks out on the benefits of a plant-based diet, as he also narrates new undercover investigation showing animal cruelty on a major U.S. egg farm.
Oscar-winning actor and longtime animal advocate Joaquin Phoenix, has teamed up with animal rights group PETA to encourage people to go vegan to help “change the world”.
The Joker star has been a vegan since he was just four-years-old, and has often lent his voice and platform to support animal rights throughout his career. Now, photographed from his own kitchen table by acclaimed photographer Juergen Teller, Phoenix stars in a new campaign with the simple but powerful message: "Change the World From Your Kitchen. Go Vegan."
“There’s so much pain in the world that we are powerless over, but being party to animal suffering is not one of them,” Joaquin explains.
With Americans still being asked to maintain social distance, and largely stay at home during the current pandemic, Phoenix’s message is a reminder that many of us can still have a huge positive impact on the world even whilst we are stuck indoors.
By simply switching to a plant-based diet, PETA says you can help save around 200 animals per year, reduce your climate footprint, and help improve your own health.
To add even more urgency to his message, Phoenix also narrated new undercover footage that shows animal cruelty and suffering on a major US egg farm.
Filmed undercover on an Ohio farm that supplies eggs to Walmart, workers are shown abusing hens and leaving them for dead. PETA’s footage reveals that more than 100,000 hens were “yanked around, slammed against metal boxes, and crudely gassed”, while hundreds of other hens died trapped in the wire flooring of cages.
Every year in the US alone, more than 10 billion land animals are slaughtered for food. By joining Joaquin Phoenix in simply leaving animals off your plate, you’ll be taking a powerful stand against the exploitation of animals.
