It’s Still Not too Late to Help Animals This Year: 5 Petitions to Sign Right Now
As 2021 draws to a close, here are five petitions you can sign to help make the world a better place for animals in the years to come.
WAMOS Air is a little-known Spanish airline owned in part by Royal Caribbean that has taken advantage of its relative obscurity to profit off an industry that is so cruel and twisted most major airlines will not stoop to participate despite financial gain; the transport of macaque monkeys across the world to die slow and torturous deaths in laboratories. Save American Horses from Slaughter
In 2020, 35,000 horses were shipped across the U.S. border into Mexico and Canada to be slaughtered for human consumption. These horses face horrific long-distance journeys to their deaths crowded together into trucks without access to food or water. Horses slated for death are often unable to rest during shipments that can last over 24 hours and many are seriously injured or killed before they even reach the foreign slaughterhouses. Urge Subway to Add the Vegan Meatball Sub to their U.S. Nationwide Menu
The United States is one of the countries with the highest meat consumption, but restaurants and food chains can play a big part in reducing the demand for meat by choosing to offer a range of delicious, vegan alternatives. As one of the world’s most iconic franchises, Subway actively embracing plant-based food in the U.S. could be a HUGE win for animals and the planet. You can sign and share the petition here.
Take Action: Donkeys Are Beaten, Skinned Alive, and Slaughtered for their Skins
Millions of donkeys are slaughtered for their skins and exported every year to meet the demand for ejiao - a gelatin-based ingredient, made from boiling the hides of donkeys, and used in cosmetics, candy, and traditional Chinese medicine. Around 4.8 million donkey hides are required to satisfy the global demand for ejiao, resulting in steep declines of donkey populations around the world.
Investigations have uncovered rampant abuse surrounding the donkey skin industry. The gentle creatures are loaded into cramped vehicles with no food or water. Many are sick or injured, and pregnant jennies often abort their fetuses during the grueling trip to the slaughterhouse. Those who do not starve or succumb to dehydration during the journey are killed via brutal methods, such as being bashed in the head with sledgehammers, violently beaten - some are even skinned alive. Tell Louis Vuitton to Stop Torturing Crocodiles
Over 20 major fashion brands including giants like Nike and Adidas and luxury designers like Chanel and Vivian Westwood have made a commitment to stop using exotic skins in their products - but Louis Vuitton is still clinging to the cruelty of the past. Every year, more than 30,000 crocodiles are violently killed in Vietnam just so that out of touch clothing brands can use their skins to make wallets, shoes, and handbags. These helpless animals endure horrific living conditions crowded into small, barren, tanks and cages for months or even a few years before they are killed. You can sign and share the petition here.
