H&M Beauty Releases New, Vegan Collection Designed for Gen Z
The new brand OHH! (OH HEY HERO) features a selection of everyday essential body care products that are entirely cruelty-free.
According to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), around 500,000 animals suffer and die every year due to cruel and unnecessary laboratory tests conducted by the cosmetics industry. Despite recent progress with an increasing number of brands opting to go cruelty-free, thousands of companies, ranging from luxury beauty brands to popular high-street giants, still persist in testing their products on animals. And it isn’t just the industry that is complicit; consumers continue to create demand by purchasing products that have been tested on animals rather than the huge array of ethical options available.
One consumer base helping to transform the industry is Gen Z, with 43 percent of individuals aged 11-25 refusing to buy cosmetics that have been tested on animals. This growing demand is prompting brands to launch animal-friendly product lines, emphasizing the crucial role of consumer demand in promoting ethical practices in the cosmetics industry.
H&M Beauty is the latest brand to embrace this with the launch of its new collection: OHH! (OH HEY HERO). The collection features ten cruelty-free daily care products to ‘uplift, invigorate and put the hero status into customers’ daily routine’, and are available at more than 2,000 stores worldwide and online across selected markets. Designed with Gen Z in mind, each OHH! product is ‘inspired by every young person’s potential to be their own hero’ and celebrates ‘individuality, body acceptance and freedom of expression’.
The 10-piece line-up of everyday vegan essentials include a moisturizing stick with shea butter and sunflower oil, body lotion, deodorant, hand cream, a body scrub, body serum and wash, as well as a five-blade razor and shaving gel with aloe vera. The collection is priced between $4.99 to $9.99, making it accessible to a wide range of customers.
“We don’t believe in complicated routines, layer upon layer of product and overpriced formulas. This collection is about inclusivity and accessibility while also being innovative and dependable,” explains Sabina Odqvist, head of private label at H&M Beauty. “We want this range to make our customers feel comfortable and confident in their own skin and we really hope that it becomes an iconic upgrade on everyday essentials for our beauty and personal care shoppers.”
