The Super Bowl LVII is nearly upon us and no doubt you’ll be prepping for a food-fuelled night with friends and family. Here at Species Unite, we love stocking up on everything from nachos and chips to hot wings and dips - and this year, we wanted to share with you a few of our favorites to help you host a delicious feast that is still in line with your animal-loving values:

Plant-based chicken wings:

Blackbird Foods’ WINGS

There’s no doubt about it, chicken wings are almost always on the menu during Super Bowl, with an estimated 1.4 billion wings consumed during the game every year.

But, thankfully, more and more people are choosing cruelty-free versions of this Super Bowl staple. An incredible ten million Americans are expected to chomp down on a whopping 160 million plant-based wings during this year’s game - that means that more than 10 percent of wings consumed will be vegan!

Some of the hottest options on the market right now include:

Blackbird Foods’ plant-based WINGS: New York-based company Blackbird Foods offer battered plant-based wings in Buffalo and Korean BBQ flavors. Crafted from wheat protein (known as seitan), these wings offer are deceptively realistic in taste and texture. Fry up until beautifully crisp and drench in your sauce of choice. Why not have the ultimate game day spread with their Super Bowl Pizza + WINGS Bundle.

Gardein’s Plant-Based Chick'n Wings: Vegan food brand Gardein has a delicious range of plant-based chicken, including their Ultimate Wings available in two mouthwatering flavors: BBQ and Buffalo. Each wing is tender and delicious, with a satisfying crunch. Find a store near you using this tool.

LikeMeat’s Chick’n Wings: Plant-based brand LikeMeat introduced their vegan chicken wings last year just in time for the Super Bowl. Available at more than 700 stores and restaurants nationwide, the wings are sold in family packs complete with either vegan Buffalo or BBQ sauce for dipping and tossing.  Find a store near you using this tool.

Homemade nachos are a classic go-to when it comes to celebrating the Super Bowl. We love our nachos to be dripping with sauce and vegan cheese and over the last few years, the dairy-free cheese market has exploded, with brands offering everything from smokey gouda to melty cheddar.

One of our favorite vegan chefs out there, Rainbow Plant Life, created this mind-glowingly good nacho recipe that will send your taste-buds tingling. Think crispy nachos layered with my vegan queso, walnut-mushroom taco meat, saucy refried beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, vegan sour cream, and pickled onions.
