Canada Goose Ditches Fur
After years of pressure from animal advocacy organizations, the fashion company has announced that it will stop selling fur by the end of 2022.
Fashion brand Canada Goose, has announced it will no longer use animal fur in its products. The news was welcomed by animal campaigners who have long criticised Canada Goose for using coyote fur on its signature parkas.
The firm said it will stop purchasing fur by the end of this year and halt using it on its products by the end of 2022.
The Humane League have called the move a "momentous step in the demise of cruel fur fashion".
"For years, Canada Goose's trademark parka jackets with coyote fur trim have been synonymous with fur cruelty but their announcement today is another major blow to the global fur trade," said Claire Bass, executive director of the Humane Society.
The news has also been welcomed by animal rights group PETA who have campaigned against the fashion company’s use of animal products for years. Over 500,000 people took part in PETA’s online actions and store protests against Canada Goose and celebrities including Pamela Anderson joined the advocacy group in urging for a fur ban.
“PETA and its affiliates are suspending their international campaigns against Canada Goose today, after years of eye-catching protests, hard-hitting exposés, celebrity actions, and legal battles, as the company has finally conceded and will stop using fur – sparing sensitive, intelligent, coyotes from being caught and killed in barbaric steel traps,” said PETA President Ingrid Newkirk.

Canada Goose purchased its fur from northern trappers who lay steel leg clamps, body traps and neck snares to catch the coyotes. The animals commonly sustain terrible injuries and suffer for days before dying of dehydration, starvation, or blood loss. Some have been reported to chew through their own limbs in an effort to escape and return to their cubs.
The company joins the growing list of brands and designers that have stopped using fur in their clothings in recent years. Nordstrom, the luxury U.S. department store, said it would stop selling products made with fur or exotic animal skin by the end of 2021, and hundreds of fashion brands including Gucci, Prada and Versace are fur-free.
Campaigners are now calling on Canada Goose to also stop using feathers in their products.
