Brooklyn’s Vegan President Eric Adams Running For NYC Mayor
The plant-based advocate will fight “for struggling New Yorkers and a better quality of life for all” in a 2021 campaign bid that tackles issues like social inequality, and health injustice.
Politician and plant-based advocate Eric Adams has announced his bid to become the mayor of New York City in 2021.
Adams, who is currently the Brooklyn Borough President, recently sat down with Species Unite to talk about his incredible health journey so far, including how he reversed his own type-2 diabetes and partial blindness by adopting a plant-based diet back in 2016.
Ever since, he's been on a mission to implement plant-based diets and nutrition in hospitals, schools, prisons, and communities all over New York City.
Now, he’s hopeful that he can take his policies to an even bigger platform with his new bid to become New York City mayor.
And tackling injustice in health is one of the pillars of his 2021 campaign. Since reversing his own health problems with a plant-based diet, he has become a national leader on public health policy, and hopes to help others make the connection between their diets and preventable chronic illnesses.
In particular, he wants to encourage people of color to advocate for themselves and improve their health. Adams recently described diabetes in the African-American community as “one of the most stubborn health problems” in the U.S., adding that “African-Americans are heavier and sicker than any other group in America, but that doesn’t have to be the case”.
