Beyond Meat and Oatly Named In TIME’s ‘100 Most Influential Companies’
The plant-based protein leader and oat milk pioneer have both been recognized by TIME for their role in helping to shape the future for the better.
TIME magazine’s inaugural list of the 100 Most Influential Companies has brought together the industry leaders that are having an “extraordinary impact around the world” - and it includes two plant-based companies helping to pioneer a more sustainable future.
Plant-based protein company Beyond Meat has helped to popularize realistic meat-alternatives.
Products like the Beyond Burger and Beyond Sausage have disrupted the meat industry, allowing consumers to eat ‘meat’ that has a fraction of carbon emissions and eliminates the need to farm animals. The company’s innovations so far have landed it landmark deals with major fast-food chains including Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut.
And its latest deal is perhaps one of its biggest yet: a three-year partnership to provide the McPlant line at McDonald’s.
Oat milk pioneer Oatly is the other plant-based company to make TIME’s list. Oatly’s popularity among consumers is continuing to soar thanks to its creamy taste and low-carbon footprint, after entering the U.S. market just four years ago.
Since then, a group of investors including Oprah Winfrey, Natalie Portman, and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, bought a 10% stake in the oat milk company worth $200 million last year. And now a much-rumoured IPO is set to follow this year, which analysts estimate to be worth over $1 billion.
Together, brands like Beyond Meat and Oatly are helping consumers to make more climate- and animal-friendly food decisions without having to sacrifice taste.
